SRI AMAN: Spirited action lit up the Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie Golden Boot Cup, with 17 men’s teams and five women’s teams battling it out in lively competition.
The second edition of the tournament, held from Friday (August 15) to Sunday (August 17), took place at the futsal court in RPR Taman Sentosa Indah Futsal Court.
Sri Aman Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie, said the championship was organised to provide space and opportunities for the community – especially youths in the P.202 Sri Aman parliamentary constituency – to actively engage in sports that are healthy, positive and beneficial.
“Sports are not just about winning or losing, but also about building discipline, teamwork, mental resilience and personal integrity,” she said in her closing address today.
She expressed her delight at the participation of 22 teams, all of which demonstrated a high level of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
She also noted that teamwork and mutual respect among players clearly showed how sports can unite the community regardless of background, age or gender.
Doris further hoped that more teams, particularly women’s teams, would take part in future editions to make the tournament even livelier.
“I truly hope that more teams will take part, especially women’s teams, in the coming year and in the years ahead,” she said.
In addition, she emphasised that sports also have a positive impact on mental and emotional health, while serving as a healthy alternative for youths compared to engaging in negative activities.
“Through sports, our young people learn time management, discipline and the value of teamwork. This is the important legacy we want them to carry throughout their lives,” she added.
The championship, first introduced in 2023, serves as a platform to nurture talent and strengthen community bonds through sports.
