Football Queensland will host the National Futsal Championships on the Gold Coast for the next three years in a landmark announcement for the state.
Delivered in partnership with Experience Gold Coast, the 2026 – 2028 National Futsal Championships will bring together participants and families from eight Member Federations across Australia as they travel to the Gold Coast for the biggest event on the national futsal calendar.
Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said the return of the National Futsal Championships to Queensland for three consecutive years was testament to FQ’s targeted investment and strategic commitment to the growth of futsal through the deployment of its Futsal Strategy.
“Football Queensland is delighted to have secured the hosting rights for the National Futsal Championships for the next three years, cementing our state as the home of Australia’s pinnacle futsal event as we build on the unprecedented success of the 2024 tournament hosted on the Gold Coast,” Cavallucci said.
“Today’s announcement is fitting recognition of Football Queensland’s significant investment in futsal in recent years and will enable the ongoing delivery of FQ’s Futsal Strategy as we continue to drive strong outcomes for the game in Queensland.
“Together with Experience Gold Coast, we can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable experience for participants and their families from across the country as they meet on the beautiful Gold Coast to enjoy an action-packed tournament showcasing futsal’s most talented players.
“The National Futsal Championships are also set to provide a major boost off the court as attendees take advantage of the chance to explore the Gold Coast’s iconic beaches, theme parks and attractions.
“With the eyes of the futsal community firmly set on Queensland for the next three years, we look forward to establishing the National Futsal Championships as an unmissable event for locals and visitors alike.”
“It’ll be a triple futsal treat with the coast securing the national championships for the next three years,” said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
“I know organisers were impressed with our city’s facilities in 2024 and we have rolled out the red carpet for 2026, 2027 and 2028. Let’s all get behind this high adrenaline sport.”
Football Australia also welcomed the announcement, with Interim Chief Executive Officer Heather Garriock stating the Championships will help elevate futsal in Australia.
“As part of our strategy to elevate futsal across the country, we’re focused on working hand-in-hand with Member Federations and local partners to create world-class experiences for players, coaches, and fans,” Garriock said.
“The National Futsal Championships are a cornerstone of our futsal pathway, and we’re thrilled that Queensland will host this prestigious tournament for the next three years.
“It’s a testament to Football Queensland’s vision in driving futsal’s growth, and we’re confident the Gold Coast will provide an exceptional backdrop for this celebration of talent, community and competition,” Garriock concluded.
