The inaugural York Girls’ Futsal Cup concluded on Sunday, February 9, after four weeks of high-energy competition.
More than 100 girls participated, with many experiencing the game for the first time.
Teams from Bishopthorpe White Rose, York Railway Institute, Wigginton Grasshoppers, Elloughton Blackburn, Hull Eagles Futsal Club, and Strensall Tigers took part in the sell-out competition.
The U10s kicked off proceedings – with Bootham Futsal Club recovering from a shaky start in the opening game to go on to win the overall event in the category.
Meanwhile, Wigginton Grasshoppers dominated the U12s, going undefeated throughout the tournament.
The U14s provided “one of the most thrilling competitions of the event,” according to a spokesperson, with Bootham Futsal Club emerging victorious in a closely contested final.
The U16s saw three evenly matched teams battle it out, with Bootham Futsal Club once again claiming the trophy.
Chris Collins, organiser and chairman of Bootham Futsal Club, said: “Well, what a month this has been!
“It has been incredibly hard work but absolutely worth it—especially when you see all the videos and images of the players enjoying themselves.
“A huge thank you to all the parents, coaches, and clubs for bringing their daughters along to experience this wonderful game of futsal.
“A special shoutout to the Bootham Futsal Club helpers, whose dedication ensured the events ran smoothly.
“A very special mention to Walker Crips Financial Services for sponsoring the event—we truly couldn’t do it without the support of companies like yours!”
He continued: “Futsal is one of the fastest-growing indoor sports in the world, and this event was designed to give girls the chance to try it in a safe and inclusive environment.
“We hope many of them enjoyed the game and will continue to play.
“As a club, we have been around for eight years and have a thriving membership—but we always welcome new players.”
The next instalment of the competition will take place in January 2026.
