
Day 3 of the 2025 National Futsal Championships in Melbourne has come to a close, and the energy is building as we head into the finals!
With over 6,000 fans, players, and family members packed into the State Netball and Hockey Centre, the competition was fierce across 50 games on seven courts.
After today’s action, the group stages have now wrapped up, and tomorrow marks the first day of finals. Teams have battled their way through to the knockout rounds, and now, the road to the championship begins! It’s all to play for as we gear up for some exciting matchups. Let’s get stuck into some of the Victorian performances from across the day.
After a challenging start to the tournament, the U12 Boys bounced back with a big win over Football Tasmania on Day 2 and carried that momentum into their final group stage match. A dominant 5-0 victory against Football South Australia, featuring two goals from Munib Ahmedin, capped off a strong finish to the group stage.
Undefeated heading into their final match, the U13 Boys Navy set their sights on a top-of-the-table finish. Unfortunately, Football NSW Thunder proved too strong, handing the Victorians a 5-1 defeat, with Jimi Read scoring the lone goal.
Despite a tough tournament, the U13 Boys White showed resilience in their final match. While the 13-2 loss to Football West was a difficult result, the team celebrated their first two goals of the tournament, courtesy of Riley Markby and Alakye Khalid.
A must-win match against Football Queensland Maroon saw the U13 Girls Navy deliver a competitive first half, tied 1-1 after a goal from Sophie McCaffrey. However, Queensland pulled away in the second half, winning 3-1 and ending Victoria’s campaign.
In a win-and-you’re-in scenario, the U13 Girls White faced Football NSW Country but struggled to find their rhythm, concluding the tournament with a 7-0 loss.
The U14 Boys remained unbeaten after securing victories over Football NSW Thunder and Football South Australia. Outstanding performances from Kayden Colomiere and Joaquim Franco Sageman, who scored three goals each across the two games, have the team full of confidence heading into their finals clash against Capital Football tomorrow morning.
Bailey Allen was the star of the day for the U15 Boys, scoring four goals in a commanding 5-1 victory over South Australia. Later in the day, they faced NSW Country in their final group stage match.
A strong showing from the U15 Girls White side resulted in a 3-1 win over Northern NSW, showcasing their growth throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, the U15 Girls Navy faced a tough Football NSW Lightning side, concluding their group stage with a 5-0 defeat.
It was a day of highs and lows for the U16 Boys. A thrilling 7-4 win over Northern NSW, fueled by a hat-trick from Walid Ahmedin, brought the striker’s tournament tally to 13 goals. However, they later fell to Football NSW Lightning in a tough 10-1 loss, with Ahmedin scoring Victoria’s only goal.
The U17 Girls fought hard in a 6-3 loss to Football NSW Lightning, with their second scheduled game of the day a bye.
Victorian Youth Men faced Football Queensland in an eagerly awaited evening match, with results pending at the time of writing.
In the Open Men’s division, the Blues overcame the Navy in an all-Victorian clash, finishing 6-2 thanks to two goals from Atay Ibrahim. Meanwhile, the Tigers delivered a strong 5-1 win over Capital Football, with Harry Robotis netting twice.
Open Women Navy recorded an impressive 5-1 victory over Queensland Maroon, with Mary Hubeek leading the way with two goals. Their second game of the day was a bye. The Open Women White team also had a bye before closing out the day with a 9-1 loss to Capital Football.
The AWD team lost to Queensland in the evening 8-2 and will complete their group stage tomorrow morning.
