Northern NSW Football is delighted to announce their return to the National Futsal Championships in 2025.
This news comes with NNSWF having renewed its focus on growing and supporting futsal in the region and streamlining the pathway between grassroots and elite competitions for players, coaches, and match officials.
NNSWF will send four teams to Football Australia’s National Futsal Championships held in Melbourne in January. The tournament will welcome the best players from across Australia to compete and showcase their talent on the national stage.
NNSWF will send under-14s and under-16s boys teams as well as under-15s and under-17s girls teams to the tournament held from 8 to 12 January 2025 at Melbourne Sports Centre, Parksville.
NNSWF will hold trials in October in Byron Bay, Port Macquarie and Newcastle which will kick off from 12 October.
NNSWF has recruited Damon Shaw as its Futsal Development Manager to oversee the implementation and development of NNSWF’s futsal programs.
Shaw has extensive experience in futsal, working across the highest levels in England, Spain, Malta, Malaysia, Sweden and the Solomon Islands.
“I’m excited to begin the process of growing futsal in northern NSW,” Shaw said.
“The goal to represent the region at the National Futsal Championships is a target that will allow NNSWF to implement talented pathways through working with current and new stakeholders.
“NNSWF hopes to reach as many players as possible with trials taking place across the state in October. We will also work closely with those involved in the game and existing competitions to identify the right players to represent the region.
“Trials represent an important starting point in our endeavour to provide players and coaches the opportunity to progress through the talent pathways that futsal has to offer.”
NNSWF General Manager Member Services Ross Hicks was excited to see the return of futsal to NNSWF’s pathways.
“NNSWF’s renewed focus in futsal is a key part of our 2024 to 26 Strategic Plan to provide talent development for all and an enjoyable football experience,” Hicks said.
“We will strive to assist futsal participants to reach their full potential through accessible participation and development programs. We want to deliver relevant football products that meet the market’s demand as well as develop and maintain strategic partnerships.”
