THE Philippines was outclassed by world-rated Thailand, 7-0, on Sunday in its first defeat in the ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship at the Philsports Arena.
Thailand displayed why it is the No. 6 team in the world as the squad called Pinay5, ranked No. 59, was outplayed all match long. The Philippines had scoring chances but was shut out by goalkeeper Suksen Sasiprapha.
Thais stay top
The Thais remained on top of the tournament table with six points following a fitting follow-up to their slim 1-0 win to Indonesia on Saturday.
After a seven-goal defeat, the Philippines fell to fourth place with one point due to an inferior goal difference with Myanmar, which also lost to Vietnam, 5-2, earlier in the day.
“This (team) is the top of the world (at) No. 6. I hope they learned a lot with the rotation and fitness. This is something that we need,” said Philippines coach Vic Hermans of the team that is gearing up for the country’s hosting of the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup next year.
