CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Oldfield is getting a new field in Bradley County.
The Cleveland City Council has officially unveiled a new futsal field at Oldfield, located in Blythe-Oldfield Park, thanks to an $80,000 Healthy Built Environment Grant from the Tennessee Department of Health.
This grant aims to “create healthy built environments to protect, promote, and improve the health and prosperity of all Tennesseans.”
The new field, a collaboration between the City of Cleveland and the state, offers residents a chance to engage in active and organized recreation right in the heart of the community.
Futsal, a fast-paced soccer variation played on smaller fields, is gaining popularity nationwide. The Blythe-Oldfield court measures 125 feet by 65 feet and features a lined, artificial turf surface.
Great Southern Recreation is handling the turf installation, while the City’s Public Works Department is providing matching in-kind services for site preparation.
Once completed, the City says it will also install fencing to ensure a safe playing environment.
The new field at Oldfield reflects our continued commitment to expanding high-quality recreational opportunities while strengthening the vitality of Cleveland’s neighborhoods,’ said Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks. ‘We are proud to leverage state resources and strong partnerships to deliver projects that directly improve community health, wellness, and quality of life.
The futsal field is now open for play, with City Fields partnering with the City to assist in the evaluation process funded by the grant.
Cleveland Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Chattanooga FC to host futsal and soccer camps at the new facility, ensuring year-round programming and engagement for Cleveland residents.
The City says this new field is part of Cleveland’s ongoing efforts to strategically invest in recreation projects that enhance accessibility, community wellness, and neighborhood development.
