The Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) Year-End Futsal competition began in spectacular fashion on Sunday night at the Retrieve Hardcourt in Linden, setting the stage for an electrifying tournament.
Four intense matches showcased the best of local football talent, with teams battling for supremacy over the next three weeks and a share of the over $3 million in cash and prizes at stake. The evening began with a nail-biting contest between Top XX and Capital FC, with Top XX emerging victorious 4-3. Rudolph Mcalmont led the charge with a brace, while Ryan Noel and Amanykie Mayers also found the net. Capital FC fought valiantly, with Morty Gittens, Omanan Ramsammy, and Emmanuel Atkins each scoring, but their efforts fell just short.
In a dominant display, Botafago thrashed Silver Shattas 7-0. Six different players contributed to the rout, including Jamal Haynes, Malachi Todd, Amanikie Buntin, Shemar Caesar, Rondell Deputron, and a brace from Jermain Maisen. Botafago’s clinical performance highlighted their intent to be strong contenders in the tournament.
Hi Stars edged past Eagles United 2-1 in a tightly contested match. Goals from Lennox Paul and Clinton Charles ensured victory for Hi Stars, while Ryan Arthur scored the lone goal for Eagles United.
The final match of the night ended in a 2-2 draw between Blueberry Hill and Milerock. Shaka Louis and Nichosi Julian were on target for Blueberry Hill, while Calvin Drakes and Mickel Jeffers scored for Milerock in an evenly matched encounter.
The action resumes on Wednesday night as teams continue to battle for a spot in the grand finale, scheduled for New Year’s Day, January 1, 2025.
