“We only have a very short time to build the squad, but the Vietnamese futsal team came here with further goals in the future. This is a great opportunity for the players to gain experience competing internationally with strong teams,” coach Diego Raul Giustozzi said before the opening day of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament.
Regarding the squad, coach Diego said: “Nguyen Minh Tri is absent due to injury. He is an important player for the team. But I don’t think too much about this absence. I have young players in the squad. I’m not here to think about other players, but to care about the squad we have. We came here to compete, to find many ways to win matches.”
Assessing his opponents, Coach Diego said: “I think Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia are strong teams. Each team has an equal chance to continue and then aim for the championship. I myself hope to win the championship. But I don’t just want to win against my opponents, I want to do more than that. I have the confidence to do that.”
The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship takes place from 2/11 to 10/11 in Thailand. The Vietnamese futsal team is in Group A with Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei and Timor Leste. Meanwhile, Group B includes Indonesia, Myanmar, Australia and Cambodia.
The teams compete in a round-robin format to determine rankings in each group. The top two teams in each group qualify for the semi-finals. In the opening match on 2/11, the Vietnamese team will face Timor Leste.
