
William Carey University Football Club inaugurated its first futsal knockout tournament today at GR Turf, Nongmensong, with an enthusiastic gathering of students, sports lovers, and dignitaries.
With 32 teams competing, the tournament promises high-energy matches, fostering sportsmanship and talent development.
The opening ceremony was attended by cabinet minister AL Hek who spoke on the impact of sports on youth development. He urged the youth to embrace physical activity for both personal and professional growth.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Soma Bhowmick emphasised the role of sports in holistic education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. She highlighted how sports enhance discipline, teamwork, and leadership, shaping well-rounded individuals.
