
RONO HILLS, Apr 01: The 8th edition of Rono Hills Futsal Premier League (RFPL)-2025, organized by Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU)’s physical education department during March 28 to 31, was a captivating for witnessing thrilling competitions, exceptional talents and remarkable sportsmanship.
RGU dean (students’ welfare) Prof. Nabam Nakha Hina, addressing the valedictory function as chief guest, advocated team spirit not only in games but in all walks of life to achieve success.
Joint registrar (examination & projects) Dr. David Pertin, as guest of honour, lauded all players for electrifying display of skill, determination and true sportsmanship. Sports events have always been more than just competitions as they build character, discipline, teamwork and resilience. He also appreciated the organizing committee for holding the event flawlessly.
Joint registrar (academic & conference Dr. Nani T. Jose) as special guest congratulated the champions, runners-up, and individual award winners. He stressed on celebrating every player and teams for reflecting spirit of sports.
Dean (physical education & sports sciences) Prof. Sambhu Prasad said the event not only celebrated the triumph of its champions but also highlighted importance of discipline, teamwork and the spirit of fair play. HoD (physical education) Dr. Tadang Minu credited the students, precisely 4th semester BPEd students for the success.
The tournament featured 18 teams, 11 (men’s category) and 7 (women’s category), who battled in a league-cum-knockout format. With over 200 players taking part g, the event highlighted the rising talent in futsal from both local and regional levels, said assistant professor-cum-league coordinator Sangey Tsering.
In men’s final, Seven Stars FC delivered a stellar performance, to defeat CR7 FC by 4-0 goals. John Riang of Seven Stars FC was awarded ‘player of the tournament’ for his outstanding contribution of 6 goals and 10 assists. Best goalkeeper (men) award went to Sonam Ngudup of Seven Stars FC, while ‘top scorer’ position was shared by Jakoria Mongku and John Riang of Seven Stars FC and Rippak Riba of the CR7 FC for scoring 6 goals each.
In women’s final, Lady Hawks clinched the title with Taba Sama was named ‘player of the tournament’, Tassar Yagung, also from Lady Hawks, secured ‘top scorer’ title with 5 goals. Nari Marging was adjudged as ‘best goalkeeper (women)’, according to a RGU release.
