San Antonio FC-themed futsal court opens at Bonnie Conner Park

San Antonio FC’s charitable nonprofit, Spurs Give, working in collaboration with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Parks Foundation, unveiled a new public futsal court on Thursday.

Located at Northwest San Antonio’s Bonnie Conner Park, the court is part of the Play SA Initiative, which aims to increase access to safe, active play spaces around the city.

For those not in the know, futsal is similar to soccer, except it’s played with just five players per team and on a hard surface rather than a grass field. The sport has grown in popularity in recent years.

The gray-and-blue court at Bonnie Conner features the image of a soccer ball at center court and San Antonio FC’s name. The corners of the court also include a Spurs Give logo.

“We’re thrilled to bring fun and new recreational opportunities to San Antonio through our partnership with Spurs Give and the San Antonio Parks Foundation,” San Antonio Parks and Recreation Director Homer Garcia III said in a statement. “Futsal is now a vibrant part of our city’s diverse and growing community, and this initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to reimagining public spaces while promoting health and wellness.”

Following the unveiling of the new community space, Spurs Sports Academy led a youth soccer clinic for kids ages 9 to 14.

“This court represents our continued investment in creating safe spaces for kids to play, build confidence and stay active,” said Patricia Mejia, CP of Inclusive Engagement at Spurs Sports and Entertainment. “With our partners at San Antonio Parks & Recreation, we are proud to deliver a space that will bring our community together and inspire the next generation of athletes.”

The futsal court is open daily to the public for pickup games, training or casual play.
