Taiwanese entertainment center Taroko Sports is hoping to knock it out of the ballpark in San Antonio. The chain, which combines batting cages with arcade games and a quick-service restaurant and bar, is opening its first Alamo City complex in the Park North Shopping Center at 618 NW Loop 410.
The brand first entered the U.S. market in April with the opening of its first batting center in Katy. It quickly followed up with an outpost in Mesa, Arizona, teasing that it would begin development on an additional three locations in Los Angeles, Houston, and San Antonio.
While batting cages are the centerpiece of Taroko Sports, it offers plenty of other diversions. Baseball activities include a pitching mound and the HitTrax Suite, an augmented reality training module that allows jocks to compete in leagues or swing in some of the most famous stadiums in the world.
“Our goal is to make baseball fun and accessible — not just for athletes, but for everyone,” says Gordon Hsieh, founder and CEO of TRK Corporation, in an earlier press release. “Taroko Sports is about creating a space where families, friends, and coworkers can come together to play, compete, and connect.”
Less athletic types can try their hand with electronic darts, miniature bowling, or an arcade filled with retro games like Space Invaders and futuristic 5D simulators. Each location has a counter service restaurant serving pub grub like pizza and fries, plus beer and seltzers.
Taroko is among a growing number of chains set to make San Antonio more active in the coming year. Major League Soccer player Brian Ching is building a soccer-themed beer garden, Pitch 25, on the East Side, and the Western-themed Outlaw Pickle is shaping up to open soon at Park North.
Taroko didn’t give an exact timeline for its debut, saying that it was aiming to have all three of its upcoming centers open by the end of the year. That timeline appears to have been pushed back. Recently filed paperwork with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation says construction will not be completed until April 2026, although those dates are subject to change.
